BuzzBands LA: Ears Wide Open // Formerly Alien

Formerly Alien call themselves the “official house band on our refugee cruise ship, currently parked in the Sheboygan-12 Galaxy.” The L.A. duo aren’t nearly as zany as that descriptions suggests, but there’s a celestial twinkle on their debut release “Civilization Transport Systems, EP 1.”

The project is the work of Andy Barr (who’s played guitar in Cobra Starship, America and Big City Rock) and keyboardist Amy Merrill. Produced by Sean O’Brien, their latest single “Different” is a slightly warped pop meditation that seeks romance “in the weather of the fog machine.” It followed debut single “Rest of My Life,” a buoyant folk-pop tune about finding new horizons. Both will make you glad you are of this earth.
